New York City in 1965 is in the midst of transformation. It’s still gripped by the beatnik legacy but edging towards the swinging ’60s vibe that’s about to explode into the Summer of Love. The streets of Manhattan (or maybe Brooklyn) would be buzzing with a mix of post-war optimism and the coming counterculture revolution. It’s the kind of place where you could see the avant-garde art world colliding with street-level cool.
