Similar species include other rock-thrushes (e.g., Sentinel Rock-Thrush, which has differences in head/back colour and is more restricted to higher elevations) or certain robin-chats, but the combination of the mottled brown upperparts, solid orange underparts, and rock perch strongly points to the female Cape Rock-Thrush.
